Diatomaceous Earth - not just completely natural but certified organic, a food grade fine white powder that provide a fantastic array of uses in the household, on the farm, and in commercial and horticultural applications.
DE is silicon dioxide (Silica) from the outer shells of tiny single-celled plants called diatoms.
The use of diatomaceous earth knows no bounds, and has many applications in cosmetic, agricultural, and cleansing realms. It’s been extensively investigated and some interesting benefits have been discovered. You must understand the importance of FOOD GRADE as there are others that can be harmful if ingested. You want to make sure to use highest quality silica of about 85-89%. There are some offering it at a lower percentage. Make sure the label reads "Food Grade" and 89% Silica is considered 100% DE. It should look white to slightly off-white.
1. Natural Source of Silica
Food-grade diatomaceous earth is composed of approximately 85% silica. This important, trace mineral is required by tendons, cartilage, blood vessels, and bones. The nutrient even contributes to almost every vital organ, including the heart, liver, and lungs. Food was the primary source of naturally-occurring silica before modern farming practices depleted the soil. It is suggested that only 1/3 of the silica we need is available in natural, plant-based foods.
2. Promotes Skin Health
Because diatomaceous earth is a strong abrasive, it is often used as a toothpaste and facial exfoliator. The process of exfoliation is important in skin care as it helps to remove dead skin cells that may give the appearance of tired, worn-out skin. The product’s natural silica content is also necessary for healthy skin, teeth, hair, and nails, and the product is often touted as a potent beauty mineral.
3. Supports Heart Health
Research has also shown that food-grade diatomaceous may offer positive benefits for cholesterol levels and encourage heart health. Nutrients such as silicon, calcium, sodium, magnesium, iron, and other trace minerals are available in diatomaceous earth, giving rise to a practically endless supply of health benefits. Most of these nutrients play a role in building and repairing of muscles and bones.
4. Natural Pesticide
One of the most common uses for diatomaceous earth is as a natural insecticide. Studies indicate that this clay-like powder can kill the harmful insects that threaten crops and home life. Due to the incessant use of pesticides, many insects have become resistant to chemical deterrents. This organic pest control method is helpful for reducing the amount of environmental toxins we’re all exposed to.
5. Internal Cleanser for Healthy Colon
Diatomaceous earth acts as a mild abrasive topically as well as internally. It can help to remove intestinal invaders and other harmful organisms from the digestive tract. As an internal cleanser, diatomaceous earth may aid cleansing by supporting regularity and assist in removing toxic metals. DE is very hard. It ranks #7 on the hardness scale where a diamond ranks #9. Notice the picture of the many diatoms. Their shells look like circular rice checks that are sharp and jagged. That is why it is used in toothpaste, because its abrasiveness rubs away the plaque stuck on your teeth. Much like scrubbing your teeth, it also scrubs away all the mucus and molds stuck to the lining of your intestines. In just a few months your colon will be free of "junk" clinging to the walls, helping your body absorb nutrients better, resulting in more energy and better sleep. Getting rid of this unwanted coating can reduce your risk of polyps, cancers, and ulcers. You will also have more frequent and regular bowel movements. For years I have believed that, when your intestines are blocked, just about everything imaginable that can go wrong, will go wrong. This can lead doctors and physicians into misdiagnosing your symptoms and prescribing you unnecessary medicine. The Diatomaceous Earth benefits in the intestines can play a massive role healing. Candida is a fungus that can consume the entire body. Everyone has this fungus in them to help aid the body in decomposing when they're dead. It eats you from the inside out. However, when we feed our bodies its favorite food (sugars, starches and antibiotics) we can have a Candida overgrowth. This blocks our digestive system and it begins to eat us alive feeding on what we eat and robbing us of our nutrition. Symptoms can also be very numerable, faking the doctors into thinking something else is wrong with us. Now this next statement is entirely my personal opinion, without any tests performed or claims from any person, that Candida could possibly be controlled by a steady intake of Silica.
Some studies have shown diatomaceous earth to be very successful in ridding animals of harmful organisms. Food-grade diatomaceous earth placed in the feed of livestock may help discourage fleas and other harmful bugs. Make sure that all diatomaceous earth is labeled “food grade” and is untreated and unheated!
